Kerala Ayuveda
Ayurveda is India's traditional, natural system of medicine that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that literally translated means "science of life" or "practices of longevity." Ayurveda was the system of health care conceived and developed by the seers (rishis) and natural scientists through centuries of observations, experiments, discussions, and meditations. For several thousand years their teachings were passed on orally from teacher to student; about the fifth to sixth century BC, elaborately detailed texts were written in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India. For many years Ayurveda flourished and was used by rich and poor alike in India and Southeast Asia.
Kizhi
Herbal leaves and herbs or herbal powders are applied to the whole body in boluses with hot medicated oils for 45 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 14 days. This treatment is for osteoarthritis, arthritis with swelling, spondylosis, sports injuries etc.

It is a process of pouring the warm medicated oil all over the body using some special devices. It is helpful in paralysis, diabetis, neurological disorders etc. This treatment increases the blood circulation, gives more flexibility to the body.
Kerala Houseboats
The Kettuvallam / Kettuvallom (houseboat in Kerala) was a large floating structure with high loading carrying capacity was a part of Kerala's culture and heritage over the past years. Kettuvallam (houseboat in Kerala) could sail harnessing wild energy. A journey through the lagoon is interesting, passing through sleepy villages, busy boat jetties and vibrant celebrations. The boat glides across the shimmering blue waters with gorgeous green and fringed edges. The small cargo boats called Kettuvalloms are frequently used in the waterways for the above purpose. " Kettu" literally means to tie up and "Vallom" means " boats". The boats played a major role in the economic development of ancient Kerala, moving cargo and men from the very nook and corner of otherwise unreachable area, cutting across the length and breadth of the land. Fifty years ago, there were more than 5000 kettuvallom in the backwaters of Kerala, mainly used for transporting goods.
